Laminating Sheets – Best Prices & Selection!

Laminating sheets are single sheets of plastic used as a protective film to cover important documents, papers, pictures etc. They come in many different sizes and shapes from letter size down to much smaller business card sized sheets.  The type of laminating sheets you choose depends on the size of the object that needs to be laminated, as well as whether you intend to use a laminating machine or hot iron.

How Laminating Sheets Work

Most laminating sheets work with adhesive.  The sheets are covered with a thin plastic film that is peeled back.  Once you place the item that you want to laminate in between the laminating sheets you are ready to commence the lamination process.

At this point, you will either place the laminating sheets in a household or commercial machine, or follow the manufacturers instructions to perform the lamination with a hot iron.  Once the the lamination process has been completed, you may need to take a pair of scissors to trim the excess plastic from the outside edge of the object.

Types of Laminating Sheets

There are two different types of laminating sheets.  The first type of laminating sheet requires a laminating machine, where as for the second kind of laminating sheets, a household iron will suffice.  Although home laminating machines can be purchased for a relatively reasonable price, they are not a wise investment if you do not plan on laminating very often.  In this instance, the laminating sheets that only require a hot iron are recommended.  It should be noted however that laminating machines will produce a more durable, longer lasting lamination.

Uses For Laminating Sheets

Laminating sheets are great for a multitude of uses including:

  • ID or business cards
  • Place mats or coasters
  • Documents that cannot get wet
  • Pictures

You can essentially laminate any piece of paper or cardboard as long as it is not too thick.

Where to Buy Laminating Sheets

Laminating sheets can be purchased in different sizes and shapes at most office supply stores.  Both the professional and “home use” laminating sheets come in packages of 20-100.  Normally when you purchase more laminating sheets at a time you will pay less per sheet.

When you are selecting laminating sheets it is important to keep in mind their intended use to ensure that you purchase the correct size and/or shape.  If you are not sure of the exact size of laminating sheets you  need, you should purchase the standard letter size, as it offer the most versatility since it can be cut to any shape or size.
